Tell Me Again...How?

Al Franken, possibly the unfunniest funny man in the history of civilization, was on with Letterman Friday evening. Here's part of what he said:

"And so basically, what it looks like is going to happen is that Libby and Karl Rove are going to be executed” because “outing a CIA agent is treason,” left-wing author and radio talk show host Al Franken asserted Friday night, to audience laughter, on CBS’s Late Show with David Letterman. Franken qualified his hard-edged satire: "Yeah. And I don't know how I feel about it because I'm basically against the death penalty, but they are going to be executed it looks like." Franken later suggested that President Bush is at risk of receiving the same punishment, since Karl Rove likely told him what he did, but he added a caveat: “I think, by the way, that we should never ever, ever, ever execute a sitting President."

Now THAT's humor. No wonder Franken is such a giant in his field. Haven't his movies made, like, a billion dollars or something?

Actually, no. Other than his time on Saturday Night Live (in which he had writers making him appear funny), everything Franken has done has lost money, including his latest crapfest, Air Amerika. Does this guy live under a star? Or does he have pictures of high-placed people in compromising positions?

If you could be executed for being an asshat who has overstayed his welcome on the planet, Al Franken would long ago have had his head mounted on a spike and put on display as a warning to other wannabe funny political pundits.

UPDATE:
You will note that this post has quite a few comments posted to it. This blog was linked on a blog that was linked at the Drudge Report, so you know the rest. Please take a minute and read the comments----this is what the Left in America is all about. Hate. Name-calling. Mindless accusations.

And, for the record, ALL comments get posted here. I have to manually approve non-registered people to cut out the comment spam. Of course, I wouldn't expect someone of such depth and intelligence to understand that.

Gee, I thought it was pretty funny. Sense of humor.... ah well, you either got it or you don't.

Also, drives home the severity of what Rove and Libby are accused of doing. You know, so it's satire. And pretty effective at that.

Like Bill O'Reilly, but with glasses???

I was rolling- he was hilarious. The crowd was in the palm of his hand, great stuff.

Bill O'Reilly actually has a background in journalism. Franken is just the smartass kid from school who got lucky or else he'd be an out of work comedian trying to make it in a radio market no one listens to. Oh, right...whoops.

Oh, I see how it is... too much of a pussy to allow opposing viewpoints, eh?

That's right in line with the Bush administration- well done you fucking hack.

On the flip side, one of my roommates thinks he's hilarious. Different tastes and whatnot.

Besides, Franken doesn't need our help to undo his enterprises.

you're right, franken hasn't made a billion dollars. if he was a billionaire we would all love him. maybe he should try having a rich daddy, rig an election or two, give himself some tax cuts, hang out with indicted criminals, and invade a country for their oil. then he would be a good rich man worth our praise.

Treason is a federal crime that's actually punishable by execution, so if these charges are brought and they are found guilty, they might actually be put to death. But nice try though.

Tony, I'll do a post some time about what I consider to be cynical humor. It appeals to certain people and, I believe, for very, very specific reasons. But I digress.

Al Franken is honest. Bill O'Reilly is a liar. Franken rules! Oh, and your beloved Bush is a crook and he may finally pay the price. Thank God.

I am instinctively skeptical of an argument when its proponents find it necessary to abandon civility and simple empirical truths in order propagate their view. Scarce is the occasion when an individual holds an opinion only to reverse himself upon reading such finely articulated probative statements such as: “well done you fu%#ing hack”.

To use such profane and pejorative terminology in an effort of persuasion only reveals (to anyone remaining conscience) the verbal combatant has exhausted himself of any truly effective debating techniques and must now rely upon visceral ramblings void of any constructive intentions or meaning.

In a sense, I relish moments when an ideological adversary resorts to these sorts of diatribes. It reeks of desperation and thoughtless impetuousness. Its only attestation of effectiveness is how quickly it surrenders the realities of an issue. It is the last vestiges of a vacant cause.

"That's what (insert political entity moniker here) is all about. Hate. Name Calling. Mindless Accusations." blah blah blah.

This phrase, and others like it are meaningless and have become trite. The Left says that the right is all about hate, name-calling and lacks substance. The Right says that the left is all about hate, name-calling and lacks substance. It's a non-argument, and a logical fallacy. It does nothing to increase the quality or progress of the debate.

As to the topic at hand, Franken is an entertainer. Just like O'Reilly is an entertainer. To his credit, Franken admits to it, while O'Reilly still operates under the dellusion that he's actually a journalist. They're both entertainers, and what they say should be taken with a very, very large grain of salt.

I have actually considered sending franken some cash to keep him on "air" .. when average people hear him talk the more likely they are to flee from him and his kind.. and that will be good news come the next election.

wonder what he will say if joe wilson is the one that gets indicted instead?..

and yes.. IF rove or libby gets indicted they should step down until the case is decided in court..

Your post went up. It was an opposing thought to the author's. So who is that fucking hack now!
