Reviews, Reviewers, Etc.

I would like to ask those of you who are regular readers of this blog and who also have heard my podcast to go to:

http://www.thepodcastreview.com/2006/08/09/the-podcast-review-episode-02/

and listen to that podcast as they review Matt's Today in History. They cover it within the first ten minutes, so you don't have to invest too much time. I would appreciate any comments you may have, whether you agree with their conclusions or not. Thanks in advance for your time.

I somewhat agree with the last statement - this is a podcast for history buffs. I'm a history buff, and I enjoy it. Someone who doesn't like history probably wouldn't find too much for them.

They make points about the production values of your podcast, and of course, they're correct to an extent - you're not in a studio, you're using your home equipment. It gets the job done, why worry about anything else?

Finally, they never criticized your content. That's your core - that's what matters. If you were catering to a mass audience, I would argue otherwise, but going for a niche audience, you're going to be raked over the coals if you don't have quality content.

Bravo for posting this to us - it's quite nerve racking to hear yourself critiqued (especially by people you can't respond to), and is even worse when others get to hear it. You're doing a good job, despite any misgivings those guys might have - remember that you made a fan of one of them, which is always a plus.

The important thing is the chick liked you. No worries!

I agree with Tony. The key points are that your content is Excellent.

The two guys are trying to be entertaining / funny like DJ's. simon try's to be funny with his comments and he calls out the host (Ed) to "take a stand" and change his overall rating. They all say the info is top notch and it is. Your podcast isn't set up to be a sit-com. It is set up like the History Channel. You are doing great!

It would be funny to get Simon to hang out with us one time. When he goes to talk to the quiet guy in the corner and says hey you must be Matt. Boy will he be surprised when he finds out you are up in the Shadow box dancing with the girls!

I agree with Sly and Tony, Matt. It's informative, it's relatively short (unlike something like TWiT), and the content is top notch.

Plus you attracted the chick and the gay guy, so you have that going for you :)

The chick and the gay guy? WHY AM I WORRIED?!? ;-)

Seriously, guys, thanks for taking the time to listen.

"Chick and gay guy.....kind of like a threesome but different."

ROFLMAO ... Sly

That's one of the funniest lines I have heard in a long time. I almost spit my drink out my nose.

I think if you really listened to them you would see that they all really liked your show, even the dude that said he didn't. Two of them flat out said they liked the show but that third host who didn't care so much for it, well, you could just tell he wasn't that into history. If you're not into history odds are you're not going to like this show no matter how well produced it is. I'm not that into knitting and no matter how good a knitting podcast is, I'm probably not going to like it. I found it ironic that they were being knitpicky about your production value yet at the same time you could hear them hitting or adjusting their mics and popping their p's. I also find their image of you as a quiet history nerd very funny.

I think many people picture anyone with an interest in history as some sort of far-out bookworm or dusty academic. If nothing else, this podcast has shown me that people from all walks of life love history.
