And so Donald Rumsfeld rides off into the sunset. I sincerely hope that those of you who saw him as the Focus of Evil in the Modern World are happy; after all, this is what you've wanted since about January 25, 2001. He was not the polished politician you are used to seeing at Pentagon briefings. In fact, he sort of gave the impression that he thought he was better than the lilliputian pseudo-intellectual media types he was forced to talk to every day.
I liked that about him.

So who's next on the beat-down list? Cheney? Just curious.

I didn't see him as a focus of evil. I just thought he was terribly incompetent. And that he tried to be some sort of "Rock Star" handing out sound bites and one liners to the media, instead of a professional in charge of the greatest military on the planet. So I can honestly say I thought he should be fired, and am not sorry to see him go. YMMV.
Hopefully this will eliminate the specter of long drawn out hearings in congress by Polosi et. al with Rumsfeld on the hot seat. I wonder how much that played in the decision to step down. Bush makes a preemptive strike?

Hash,
Actually Congress can subpoena civilians as well as elected and appointed officials so Rumsfeld is hardly safe from the Seat of Heat.
Speaking of one-liners, how about “Cut and Rumsfeld”?

Rock star? Rumy is too smart and too old to put up with the media/reporterss BS. He was no darling to them and that had a lot to do with the hate. His change was only for appeasement of the Dems and those who follow their rhetoric. I can't wait to see the spectacular changes now that he is gone. Yep, sure.

This is just another blunder.......had GWB fired Rummy 3 weeks ago, he may have saved some seats in the Senate and the House last night.

Benito you are wrong there. Rummy leaving or staying the change was going to happen. Since the Civil War the House changes hands around every 14 years. It was 12 years since the Republicans won it from the Dems. Many people do not like Bush and were going to make a statement. They did.

Would love to see Cheney step down and have Rice become VP.
