The Laying On Of Hands

As I write this, millions of people are waiting to hear Barack Hussein Obama's acceptance speech for the Democratic nomination for President. I expect to see a crowd response not seen since the heady days of Bill Clinton in 1992. And yet, we will be no closer to understanding who Obama is or what he really plans to do if he wins the White House.

If you are a Obama supporter, please do one thing for me: tell me, in detail, what Obama's energy plan is, how he plans to deal with Social Security, who is going to get a tax cut and whose taxes will increase. In detail. You will not receive any answers tonight, as this speech is going to be exactly like the rest of Obama's campaign: high on emotion, wordiness and class warfare.

Reading this, I realized that I didn't know much about either candidate's plans, at least not "in detail". So I just took ten minutes and went to each guy's website to check out their energy policies. I focused on one area that I think is pretty important: reducing dependence on foreign oil.

Judging from their websites, both candidates have a pretty firm grasp on this issue, and they seem to agree on the broad picture that we need to use less foreign oil. They differ in the details, but both provide those details on their website. Check them out (on McCain's, scroll down on "Taking action now"):

McCain provides more dollar amounts and Obama uses dates more often, but both offer the details you seek.

Perhaps Obama speaks more broadly when he's on TV, but you can go to his website and see all the nitty gritty stuff. While I don't agree with either candidate on every issue, I do find it hard to believe when people speak about either one not providing enough details. I hear it more in reference to Obama than McCain (the anti-McCain version of the attack seems to be that he's just like Bush). Both attacks work on that "emotional appeal" that you mentioned - it's not just limited to the Obama campaign, I see it everywhere.
