Hugh Hewitt has posted an exact transcript of The Chosen One's speech to some of his Hollywood supporters earlier this week. If we take out the uhs (which almost every speaker inserts at some point), we are left with very little of substance. But since most Left Coast liberals lack substance anyway, I'm sure checkbooks flew open. To you Dems out there----this is your man, your Truman, your Kennedy. Congratulations.
I am nearly finished re-reading John McCain's first book, "Faith of My Fathers". The Senator from Arizona is no saint. There are issues with which I disagree with him, such as immigration policy, and I believe that he spent many years in love with the attention he received from the media for being a maverick Republican (where is all that adoration now, by the way?). But when I think of a 32-year old Lieutenant Commander, badly injured, beaten and malnourished who refused early release by his North Vietnamese captors so at to deny them a propaganda victory, my heart swells with pride. No, being a POW for nearly six years does not make John McCain the better candidate. Being a Navy fighter/bomber pilot and squadron commander does not make McCain the better candidate.
I could say that John McCain is a better candidate because he holds the same opinions as me on many important issues, such as national security and abortion. That alone would make me vote for him over Barack Obama. But there is something more, something that is hard to verbalize. In short, John McCain is the real deal. He did not abandon his faith in his nation even during his darkest hour. He stayed true to his oath as a defender of our Constitution under conditions that would have broken all but the strongest of men.
When the phone in the private quarters of the White House rings in the middle of the night, it's never about welfare or public education. It's about the nation's safety and tough decisions have to be maderight now. Barack Obama's short career as a Senator and time as a "community organizer" have left him fit to be what he is: a grand-standing politician. So when that phone rings and something terrible has happened, I want the person answering it to be a guy who understands terrible things and hard decisions. I think the choice becomes clearer every day.

"The weekly HBO show also featured Democratic operative Paul Begala by remote feed and actress Roseanne Barr as a late panel arrival, both of whom also took the opportunity to rip McCain, Palin and Republicans."
Anything that Rosanne Barr is for... dear lord.
Posted by: Troy at September 18, 2008 03:53 PMJust a note of caution:
That same "phone rings in the dark" decision is what led many to vote for the last guy I believe. And that "something terrible" actually ended up being a travesty of rubber stamped spending bills, a skyrocketing deficit and debt, and a trashed economy.
The president is MORE than just the Commander in Chief.
At least McCain's claim to fame is he is a budget hawk and he picked a budget hawk to be his VP.
But when I hear the conservative talk shows blab daily about how the economy is doing great, and all the gloom and doom is a liberal media generated concoction, while my grocery and gas bills skyrocket, my 401K plummets, and I struggle to make ends meet despite having a good job - No wonder people think (some) republicans are "out of touch".
It's 1992 all over again - and yes "It's the economy (again) stupid" McCain better start with the "I feel your pain" like Ol' Bill. There is no Karl Rove orchestrated "Gay Marriage Issue" to rally the disgruntled and deflect the blame this time.

Hash-
Since when does your bad investments (401k) fall on Bush? He did't put your money there. Maybe you need a better financial adviser.

Joemerica,
Although it is an exercise in futility trying to argue any point with you, but since you asked ..
401K tied to general market tied to general economy tied to dollar strength tied to federal debt.
You can throw in the subprime crisis, debt crisis, oil crisis, etc. which the feds in their infinite wisdom are supposed to monitor and warn the public about.
It's a case of a CEO (in this case of a country) asleep at the wheel.
If you want to make the case of Bush having NOTHING to do with my 401K, the next time one of you Bush fanbois tries to make a big hulabaloo about a measly $300 "tax rebate" stimulating the $10 trillion US economy, I am going to slap you silly.

Like I said before uou went into your circle of nonsense like usual. MAKE BETTER INVESTMENTS. You're one of those guys that likes to blame everyone else for all the problems. Instead of reading here you should be reading a Fortune Magazine and learn where to put your money.

Like I said before. Exercise in futility.
You can never argue a point. All you know to do is to hurl personal insults.
at September 18, 2008 10:01 PM
Hash,
I agree with your assessment of GW: good C-in-C, bad with money. You're right: McCain is no Bush. He has chided his fellow Senators and Congressmen again and again for spending "like drunken sailors".
The point, I guess, is that I don't think Obama can be a good C-in-C OR a good manager of debt and spending. I just hope McCain is as loud about spending in the White House as he was in the Senate.

Whoops!
Careful Matt. You're next in line to be called a liberal moron that needs to read Fortune magazine.
:-p
Obama has made his direction very clear. He is going to follow the "income redistribution" plan, disastrous in my opinion especially in a down economy. The trick for McCain is how is he going to NOT increase taxes and lower deficits. It is one thing to talk about cutting spending. It is another thing altogether to get Senators and Congressmen to give up money for their districts.

Hash-
It seems you can never answer the points directly. Do you have some sort of comprehension problem? If you read my first post I don't see any insults? You taking offense to a post that is fact, is just too bad. Don't go into some off course rant. STAY Focused. Read the post and answer the question. Do you need me to hold your hand and walk you through it?

Joe,
I already answered your point. If you are too dense to connect the dots, maybe it's YOU that needs to read fortune magazine. As far as me taking offense to a post that is a "fact", calling my post a "circle of nonsense" is your MORONIC OPINION. Doesn't in any way make it a Fact. As far as "You're one of those guys that likes to blame everyone else for all the problems" - You have no idea who I am or what I stand for. So comment on this blog all you like. Leave your personal insults about me out of it.
I hate to say this on my friend's blog but I am seriously tired of your crap. You have a problem with me, my address is in the phone book. I'll meet you at the door.

EASY thin skin. YOU made the investment. Live with it. Take the $300 next time and invest it in land and let's see if "my 401K plummets" It is a Fact Look up the definition. I know enough about what you type on here to see your blame game. Personal insults? Where? I would say all this to your face if I had a chance.

Guys.....
I know this is a political type of site... but come on!
Jomerica... I know Hash personally, and I can tell you this: He is an extremely intelligent and well-spoken individual. EVERYONE in the American economy is experiencing a downturn in investments; they're ALL going sour. Do the woes of AIG, Lehman, Morgan-Stanley or Goldman mean anything to you? Does the fact that Suze Orman is changing her general "no-help-from-the-the-govt" opinion (because the situation here is desperate?) This point in time has been coming for a while, and whether you care to admit it or not, the economy on Bush's watch has gone into the toilet. A hand from the Feds has become critical, and everyone knows it.
On top of that, we have a nation of uneducated voters who think that a vote for "change" means we can instantly go back to the Clinton-era prosperity that made this country so weak. That is not going to happen.
I can't speak for anyone else here, but I have consulted with more than just one good financial advisor, and I have placed my investments in low risk options with a 5 or 10 year history of stability, in the hopes that my meager portfolio will be able to weather the storm. I am hoping to invest hard and live tight while the market is crap, in the hopes that I can jump in before things get going again, and ride a wave of cheap purchases to the isle of a comfortable nest egg for retirement.
Before you all go insulting each other, especially people that you don't personally know, how about you think about what you are saying and do a little research before you open that piehole and shower us all with your shitstorm of stupidity.
and just so we're clear here... Hash, I wasn't directing that comment at you.
Where can we buy land for $300? Iraq?

Troy-
Thanks for saving Hash he obviously needed it. What I said is true. Study up like Hash has been doing for the last few days before making another comment. And get another advisor so we don't have to hear you crying, too.
